for GONE BABY GONE - wonderfully written as always. I was stuck reading for long periods wanting to find out what happened next. Another excellent , gripping read
two-thirds through the book and it reminds me of my upbringing not that far away in central Birmingham. Lenny has captured his ‘integration' into the UK amid his large family and his disciplinarian mother, who ruled the household with an iron clad steely defiance and authority. A very worthy read for any Lenny fans and those who want to know about this stalwart of British TV comedy over the last three decades
Funny, relevant, tasteful poems, that give you that ‘lift' ready for the festive season, putting you in that holiday mood, with the fleeting remembrance of this time of year and what means for many of us in spiritual way, without being too biblical- great reading material
good simple guide to the tasty Caribbean dishes from his Grandmother's own hand and kitchen..worth keeping in the kitchen for tasty meals..
Superb, shocking (the truth being told),thought provoking, very relevant, well written and put together the disturbing facts of the lives of black people ...if we thought the abolition of slavery was the end of the torment for black folks think again ..best factual book of 2021
Fun, exciting, engaging book following the 5 children that seek the secret of the orchard and what that ends up meaning for them personally. The characters are built from a variety of backgrounds and situations (an orphan, one with two loving parents, another with parents who don't seem to be around and another, a single father) - I like the fact they also come from places around the world, (Asia, Caribbean) although this doesn't directly affect the story, yet adds to the richness of it.
Thrilling, and silly when necessary coupled with humour, make this a well rounded book, leaving you wanting more, to find out what else will happen as the headmistress hits back at the Pentagon Pirate Gang, when they are ‘empowered' and enhanced when they take an elixir from the special fruits inside the first orchard. The battle commences and I'm keen to read book two see how the story develops..
Being in sales myself for over 30 years I can concur with the information as its laid out by the author. clear concise and specific especially around the non-verbal communication we all emit often without realizing the messages we are sending. Short yet sharp in its content its to the point without labouring on the issues at hand
Ludlum's books are a great read . I still have some older ones to read yet. The Bourne identity serves up wonderful thrills, intrigue and mayhem, coupled with a highly trained killer losing his memory and almost his mind - very enjoyable first book in the series
A riveting read with classic plot twists to keep you guessing all the way through, as Haller finds himself on the ‘B' team when called in to represent the reprehensible! Connelly's assured writing pervades throughout as it does will all of the Bosch books I've read. This has a unique angle of a lawyer operating out of the back of his Lincoln motor vehicle, using it as a mobile office, whilst trying to keep the money coming in, and this latest case becomes his biggest. Loved it.
My first Michael Connelly novel and still to this day the most disturbing in my opinion in a Hannibal Lecter style . Gripping and provoking, yet full of interest, mystery and darkness, put together with some style by Mr Connelly making you want more after each page and chapter...
Excellent plot, with twists and a fierce narrative that keep driving throughout the book. You need to keep up with the story set in the midst/backdrop of the WW2 with a powerful family at the heart of the story, that links to the Nazi Germany, the atrocities wrapped in a thriller mystery of deception and deceit. Would recommend ( a typical classic Ludlum novel)
like the man the actor and this bio - funnier than a thought it would be, just goes to shoes about judging books and covers..
Not something I'd usually read, but it intrigued me somewhat. A classic story that i heard so much about growing up. Reading it kept me gripped more than I expected as attempted to read it with an open mind, which I dad and was surprised how much i liked and see why it has become a classic read.
On top of this I love Cornwall and that coastline of the UK is simply stunning, which comes to life in Du Murier's vivid descriptions. Worth a go even if this isn't usually your cup of tea
Beautiful, thought provoking, riveting read. What a ‘colourful' life Maya has endured and has the presence and the heart to write the books that cover this period. One of my personal favourite reads.
One of my personal favourite Patterson books with the dual killers from both sides, Alex Cross cousin captured and held by perps who are playing out a game of make believe and competition with all the lives of all these ‘girls' they want to kiss..
Still one of my favourite JP books out of so many - this fits my mindset - the plot, characters intertwine on a Hitchcockian level (in my humble opinion - and I love Hitchcock) a thrilling read from start to finish
simply and poetically stupendous! read over and over to my children when they were younger. The mouse, the snake and the clever trickery to out ‘fox' the Gruffalo is told wonderfully through rhyme (my 2nd passion is writing poetry and this is an inspiration for me). One book for everyone child's bookshelf
my childhood and wanting to dream and write probably started here. A gorgeous story that I have read many times as a child and now as a father myself, I have read this with my children. Rich story, deep in parts with characters to match, blends itself into a ‘fairy-tale' like story that runs beyond the norm, keeping you warm and cosy. A greet feeling, a fantastic read for all ages.
