I think the hype for this book got to me and I was kinda underwhelmed by the writing style. It's almost entirely dialogue driven to the point that I don't even know what these main characters look like or what the general environment looks like. It is a nice coming of age story but in recent years I think film and literature have been so packed with those that they've become all similar to me.
I'm very aware of the problematic plot point in this series and especially in this book, but it holds a special place in my heart, and rereading it time and time again brings me comfort. The plot is all over the place but the ending is gripping and I always fly through the second half of this book.
4.5/5
I really enjoyed this and practically flew through the whole thing in 3 days. But I did find at some points the writing wasn't as great as I'd wanted it to be and I had seen the plot twist from pretty early on in the book.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a thrilling read with conspiracy themes.
This was incredibly enlightening and informative. I found it particularly refreshing to read about structural racism in a country that isn't the USA and how similar but also different they are from each other. I recommend this book to everyone, these conversations are needed now.
More like a 3.5. Super fast read and I really enjoyed the writing style and the inclusion of a podcast style story telling. Unfortunately this has an open ending and I feel very unfulfilled.
Listened to the audiobook for this which was a nice experience, but I found the story unexciting. Tina's comedy is entertaining as always, and it only gives a small insight to her journey through the industry. Would recommend for a casual listen but it isn't anything groundbreaking.
Yes this is the first time i read this. But I went into it knowing it wouldn't be a literary masterpiece and purely enjoyed it for the guilty pleasure that it is.
An amazing audiobook! Deep and thoughtful while still being hilarious. This deals with addiction and recovery in a way that is informative while still remaining light hearted.
The first book had me questioning what I loved about this series back in the day. I got it now, I'm sorry I doubted you.
A 3.5. I love this book in the sense that it brings me back to the 8th grade, but I can acknowledge 7 years later that it is not the most groundbreaking thing on the planet. And wow I definitely forgot that the main characters make out every 5 seconds. Like literally every 5 seconds.
The plot for this book doesn't take off till the last like 30% and it was not at all what I was expecting from this story. The writing is very beautiful and I see the appeal of the gothic setting. I just don't think horror is really for me.
This audiobook came into my life at the very moment I needed it. I am now determined to get myself a copy of this book so I can enjoy the artwork and keep referring to it for quick motivational reminders.
This is like slightly better twilight? So I feel less guilt for enjoying it but also still very cringe.
I picked this up on a whim from the local authors section in Ottawa and had no idea how much I would connect with this story. A girl from a small town in northern Ontario who moved to Ottawa for university that faces so many hurtles.
I recommend everyone interested in seeing how the justice system in Canada continues to fail women to read this!
This was really interesting to read. A short history of witch-hunts and their continuation in the modern world. Has given much information about violence against women that I was not aware of. Recommend for any one Interested in women's rights literature.
The premise of this books is really interesting and promising but the writing and execution is just bad. I'm a big fan of some of Richelle's other works so this was a really big disappointment for me.
3.5/5
I really enjoyed the setting and characters of this book, but i found the world building a little had to understand at first.
