I liked the twists and turns of this book. A, interested in following Mickey Haller as he develops. It was a very different book than the Harry Bosch novels. This kept it interesting and also kept me from comparing the two series.
I absolutely loved this one. It kept you going page after page and Kathy Reichs did a great job at building mystery and tension. I am excited to see if there are more books in the series that I like as much as this one
I did eventually warm up to this book however I am not raving about the series just yet. I will give Harry Hole another shot at catching my interest as the book absolutely caught my interest as it progressed and was a definite puzzler until the reveals began.
So...it is 2023 and I have just re-read The Bat. I guess my review from 2015 was correct because I've warmed even more to this book which many told me to skip. I love knowing the history of characters and this book did an excellent job of painting the history of Harry Hole. For fans of Nordic Crime I think this series is a win.
This book was pleasant surprise for me. It melded two genres together that of history and mystery. This series has become my new “summer read” quick, easy, beach reading fun!
This is what I call a “fun read”. Fast, entertaining, and addictive. Glad to see there are so many more in the series.
I am really loving this series. The twist was interesting...can't give it away. I wish I could watch the TV series. There was a commercial for the series playing on TV tonight but unfortunately it is an exclusive “Crave TV” production. I will continue to read. Books are their own magic.
I read this while in university. Hard to rate a book which was required reading and read so long ago. Certainly a book to be read by musicians during time of study.
Best GF Flour..I make this flour every couple of months and use it in all my recipes even Grandmas old favourites. So 5 stars for my review.
I am enjoying this book of relaxing mandalas. The price point ($10.00 Canadian) was excellent for the quality of book although markers do leak through the pages. The book accomplishes what it sets out to do...it leads the user into a relaxing, mindful experience. The pictures where detailed and beautiful and the artist did not forget the fact that the purchaser would be USING this book. Details are not so delicate as to cause frustration. The affirmations attached to each mandala is a nice re-enforcement of Louise Hay's other healthy living books and a gentle reminder of the purpose of the book. The reader does not have to be familiar with the affirmations to enjoy their sentiments. I am deducting a star due to the paper not being sturdy enough to withstand the use of markers which many colouring subscribers enjoy using. A truly enjoyable purchase.
Thank you to the author for this Giveaway.
Great little book. Easy to use. Easy to read and understand. The book format engages the user and keeps interest moving as opposed to the clinical worksheets I have experienced in the past.
Well organized and presented.
I have to admit I have a bias to this play. My daughter is currently performing a high school production of it and last week they won for our area and are headed to regionals. This play about the agony of waiting...and how frequently we are forced to endure the wait was a fun little play with lots of surprises. Enjoyable and relatable. It's a nice addition to a playbill looking for diversity and humour in their evening set. I found the vignettes well paced and amusing. Solid 4 stars for this tiny comedy.
Sorry Jen McArthy but I hated the whole concept of this book especially and including the title! We would ALL move mountains to “heal” our children. Every family that faces this starts on a journey which was chosen for them. A journey with so many twists and turns and ups and downs it's almost impossible to explain. Books like this one call into question the “right” way to care for your child with autism. It is divisive and I believe knowing the outcome socially of such books quite cruel. Raising children with autism is isolating enough without claims of a non-existent “cure”.
I use this meditation/regression tape in order to relax. I went and heard Brian Weiss at a conference and was surprised at how much I enjoyed his story. You do not need to have a transcendent experience while listening to the recording to reap the benefits of thoughtful insights and a relaxing experience. His theories on life and after-life are interesting to read about and make determinations about your own belief systems.
I picked up this book on vacation where it had been left behind in a seaside cottage. I had never read anything by Binchy and know how much she is adored. I do not believe this is her best effort. It was a quick read and writing format is very easy to get into. On that scale I would rate the novel with stellar marks. Unfortunately this particular novel is a collection of short stories which were not fully developed nor concluded properly. I had the sense that this may have been one of Bichey's beginning efforts or her cast offs and that following her great success a publisher printed these efforts up for profit. That being said, there was enough positive success within Lilac Bus that I will give this author another read.
First book and workshop on this topic that I found to be helpful....EXTREMELY helpful. Anyone looking at this book already knows this journey is long and isolating wth not as much medical help available as your expectations may have previously demanded. This book delivers. Improvement takes time but this book, followed leads to hope and health improvements.
I was extremely disappointed in this cookbook. Nothing inspiring AND simply calls for the use of “Gf white Flour”...no kidding? Please pardon my sarcasm and insert eye roll here. There are much better books on the market for those of us that must live GF.
This book is a wonderful purchase for the budding artist. Often these “tutorials for beginners” should be labelled “tutorials for serious art students in post secondary”.... This book has energy and gets the reader excited about trying these techniques. It is an extremely visual book, which makes sense as the author introduces you to visual art making techniques. I was happy with this purchase and am enjoying working through ideas presented within the colourful pages.
I received this book as a GR Giveaway. Thank you to [a:Matthew Schmaltz 6606510 Matthew Schmaltz https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] and to Goodreads for the opportunity to read and review this book.WOW! I really enjoyed this book. Not only is it non-fiction but it also falls under the category of spiritual and or spiritual/academic reading. Often this type of literature can bog the reader down in footnotes and quotes and dare I say pretentiousness? Forget all of the bible study books and group study books that have come before [b:Mercy Matters: Opening Yourself to the Life-Changing Gift 26715778 Mercy Matters Opening Yourself to the Life-Changing Gift Mathew N. Schmalz https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1445791521s/26715778.jpg 46744573]. This is not only a book for home study but one that would suit well with a weekly group. The writing is fluid and engaging. Schmalz paints picture after picture of relatable and interesting scenes that draw the reader into the narrative. At the end of each chapter he encourages you to delve deeper into questions of mercy, faith and your own interactions with the world around you. Due to the excellent presentation of this book you are interested as a reader and therefore remain engaged with the questions posed. It is a book that I believe adults at any stage will see themselves in. Schmalz has the ability to write in a way that captures the interest of the reader and therefore leads them into a self discovery of their own views and beliefs. An excellent addition to ANY church library shelf.
I would have given this book only one star. I gave it two only out of respect for the talent in the writing. The author does a masterful job of describing setting, smells, micro-expressions and painting the picture of this story so delicately that I can close my mind and envision all characters and setting. It was a book that took you travelling with it. As the mother of a teen boy I could not get past the basic content. I know just how YOUNG a boy if that age is. Despite the title character calling him a man and reading into his actions. This all struck me as distasteful at best and smacks of pedophile actions at worst. The main idea around which the entire novel is built was simply a hurdle that no great writing could make up for. If the young man were even a few years older it would have made a difference in my review.
I was pleasantly surprised by this novel. I really enjoy history, however I am not a huge fan of the romance novel. So often when reading historical fiction these tow genres are entwined. I find often that in such novels the romance is primary and the history is secondary. No Place for a Lady does an excellent job of balancing the historical story and the lives of it's characters. I dropped my rating to three stars only because I found that the author tied everything up in a perfect little happy bow. In terms of social context and history the bow that was tied was to unbelievable for me.
I am looking forward to exploring Gill Paul's work further in her other novels.
I have such a difficult time reviewing books from my childhood. I struggle with “The Classics”. Who am I to say a book that many scholars, book reviewers and teachers before myself have already christened one of the BEST books in history.
Fortunately for me “The Velveteen Rabbit” does not disappoint my adult self. It continues to fill me with as much happiness, joy and hope that it did for me when I was five. It is one of the books that I have saved from my young years. My copy is worn and moldy smelling. The spine is cracked and the pages are brittle. It was read to me almost nightly as I clutched my own version of The Velveteen Rabbit: Paul the Koala. Yes I still own Paul as well.
As a child who struggled with health I related to this book in every dimension. I believed that Paul could have been ripped from my arms and burned. I knew the love a child has for that stuffed animal that IS real. As my teenage daughter would say this book has all “the feels”
Reading it today I was transported again to that place in childhood that believes in magic. Believes in everything that can be written on golden pages of fantasy and comes to life in your imagination.
It doesn't matter that it is a Children's Book. It is magically and well written. This book stands the test of time and delivers a message to children while also delivering a parable to adults.
Time tested and true a must have for any nursery. A great gift to give to a new mother to read and love with her children and future grandchildren.
5 stars...hands down...no question or guilt!
One of my favourite Lucas Davenport novels. It was one that I wanted to keep turning pages through the night. Fast paced build to the finish.
