Moorcock continues to scratch that dark fantasy itch for me in every way. This book isn’t by no means breathtaking but it is so fun and entertaining to take on. FotP also has a great overall message about attaining and manifesting dreams. Solid stuff.
Clean, simple and a good time. This Dark Fantasy story is executed beautifully. Put on some Dungeon Synth tunes, relax and let the tone carry you off.
A tinge of horror and anticipation with dark, gritty, realistic post apocalyptic setting. It’s a short read but the impact and memorability is anything but.
A horrific, disturbing and haunting tale that years later still hasn’t quite left my mind. The characters, the plot and the atmosphere have lingered with my conscience. Terrifying.
Mind bending, mind altering, grand in scale and scope. It’s a slow burn worthy of meditation to uncover every ounce of world building, character development and themes. Brilliant work of art.
Interesting premise that initially pulled me in but upon finishing it left me with a sense of disappointment. It lacks depth and isn’t captivating beyond the first few chapters. The plot keeps building in anticipation to a discovery that never reveals anything but deflation.
A look into the mind of just how strange it can be as a kid growing up with peer pressure and the effects of change during childhood. Eerie, voyeuristic and strange at times. A cautionary warning of what can happen when growing up and the pitfalls, dangers, nuances and proverbial forks in the road that come along with it.
Creepy, hopeful, intriguing and a dive into identity and what it means to try and overcome primal inhibition.
Outstanding world building, characters and narrative. Dark, adventurous and intriguing. There’s so many little mysterious that are spun that are answered if you’re paying attention. I also enjoyed the subtext Tchaikovsky has told with this story as well. It’s just a wealth of insight and fun book to read even though it’s a dark and violent tone.
American culture cranked up to an 11 with plenty of absurdity, cyberpunk cool and a narrative that ponders human linguistics in dealing with civilization.
Ruocchio weaves a brutal tale on a prison planet within the Sun Eater universe. Cold and dark with a sprinkle of hope.
Dripping with atmosphere, intrigue, immersion and well executed lines to remember. This book is very cool and memorable. It’s a very fast paced telling that doesn’t hold your hand and could leave some behind or leaving you scratching your head. If you’re looking for a mind bending, trippy, edgy experience look no further.
Ruocchio expands even further in Disquiet Gods both in scope and ambition. This wild ride has raised the bar and provides satiation along with more questions and meditation.
A Sun Eater novella that captures the brutality of invasion and how leadership responds in its wake. Seductive, bloody and a nice dose of tension.
Action packed and a far cry from Ruocchios standard slow burn narrative. They’re many more revelations enticing for further reading with a gut punch of an ending.
Dark, guttural, brutal and haunting. This is Ruocchios darkest entry I’ve read but it doesn’t go without a silver lining of intrigue and hope.
Political intrigue, epic battles and revelations to raise eyebrows. This book simultaneously satiates and increases anticipation for the Sun Eater universe.
A dive into the seedy underbelly of an empire and galaxy that leads to even more intrigue and revelations of established characters. Haunting, eerie, beautifully written and worthy of speculation and meditation.
Political intrigue with a decent helping of a familiar ideology. You encounter some original characters from the debut novel to help expand the original settings world and development. It’s an entertaining novella that offers a different perspective to the Marlowe family line.
Hadrian Marlowe recounts the beginning of his personal saga into a vast, dangerous, deep universe where he must overcome his own expectations, desires, failures and naïvety. A space opera that emites a bleak tone with a silver lining of intrigue and desire to unravel the world building in this beautifully written narrative.
