A very informative misadventure on the Appalachian Trail. I still chuckle thinking about it.
Written in 1943, when all the men drank rye and all the women were platinum blondes. This hard-boiled story is fun but the plot is a little weak.
Nice to be reading Niven again. The book had a great concept. It was filled with interesting ideas but the ending is disappointing. It felt like half through writing the book they decided to leave the ending open incase they wanted to write a sequel.
But all in all a good sci-fi read.
This is a completely engrossing story. The two main characters each dies in 1988 only to awaken as a teenager in 1963 with adult knowledge and wisdom intact and the ability to make a new set of choices. Different spouses, lovers, children, careers, await them in each go-round of the past 25 years, as well as slightly altered versions of world events.
A great history of the liberation of Paris. Like most good histories, this book is full stories that reinforce the axiom that the truth is stranger than fiction.
An amazing story. Malcolm X was one of those rare people that would have been successful no matter what he did? Alex Haley did a great job. I really well written book.
Extremely strong characters. One of the few books that I have read that I had no idea what was going to happen next.
A great blend of dark fantasy and horror. Barker uses his warped imagination to tell an epic story.
This is a 3 star book but I gave it an extra point for use of advanced vocabulary and unusual adjectives.
Not his best book. Going in I knew that the book revolved around a moon populated by mental patients. Strange but it is Philip K. Dick. The plot gets more bizarre as he includes the CIA, aliens, robots, a sit-com star and a marriage councilor. Again, not his best book but readable.
The drive of climbers in this book is amazing and confounding. In many instances they are literally stepping over dead bodies to reach the top of the world.
Dolores was the most interesting character of this novel but she was a total mystery. I would have really have liked to know what was going on in her mind.
