Very interesting depiction of a protagonist, whom the world would deem as having everything - money, beauty, hip job, condo on the east side. Yet, internally, her world is falling apart, so much so, that she wants to take a year off to sleep. This novel explores how far one would go to get their life back on track or a total reset - with some exceptions.
P.S. The therapist leaves so much to be desired. That's all I will say as not to spoil it

Jemisin, you definitely got it, right! Accurate depiction of the various cities, personalities. I really enjoyed this story, which caused this Brooklyn girl, serious nostalgia.

• Lacked consistency, there were parts of the story that was very gripping and then good chunks of the story that lulled. This made it hard to give an accurate rating.
• Great character development, characters were three dimensional and nuanced.
• At the end, I definitely wanted to continue with the story, not for lack of completion, but investment in the characters and how they fared after so much trauma/blows to belief systems.
This book really opened my eyes to disability discrimination and disability politics. As a non disabled person, I rarely think about the challenges that disabled people face. Going forward, I will be more open/aware to the challenges that others face.
I really enjoyed, Blackbird Vol 1. I will continue to follow the series, as it is released.
I am happy, I gave Guillory's novels another shot. I really enjoyed this novel. This love story was very modern and relatable.

“He greeted me the way you might come upon a book, flip through the pages casually, and recall how much you'd enjoyed reading it. So there it was: I was a fond memory.”
I really enjoyed this novel. Very bookish, which I am finding I really appreciate.

I really enjoyed this storyline. It truly portrays, how are lives are interconnected. My only con, I wished the story was longer.
I must buy this book!!
These stories were great and one really needs to take the time to chew and digest them. As I had a library copy, I must buy my own, so I can really take the time with each story. Even with that said, these stories have left an impression.
Rating to Come .....
Listened via audiobook. I need to get my eyes on the words.
As a newbie to poetry, I need to take my time with each poem.

I was so excited to read this novel. However, that excitement died, almost immediately.
The overuse of complex multi-syllabic words made the prose - muddy, murky and disjointed. I love a big word but not at the expense of clarity and flow of a sentence.
Secondly, I just couldn't connect with this coming of age story, even though the storyline was unique to me. Could be why it has taken me a month to read.
Definitely would recommend listening on audiobook rather than reading the physical book.
Moshfegh knows how to write deranged/complex female characters with bad hygiene practices.
