3.5/5 - I love Keke and have been following her career for years as she moved from child actor to adult actress. I was expecting a memoir but this was definitely a self help book. I would recommend this book to entrepreneurs who are looking to understand how to brand themselves and remain relevant in the social media space. Keke is very smart and the book was well written. I know she isn't perfect and has had missteps but I think she is a good role model for young black women.
4.5/5 - What a beautiful love letter to Detroit!! I know that city gets so much flack in general, but I enjoyed reading about its charm and character. Prince and Dani were the cutest. Now I will be honest, Prince came off too mature for his age, so it was hard for me to believe that was the type of advice he would give, but I love he wasn't tainted by the red pill, incel community just yet. lol Dani's character reminded me so much of Moesha from the tv show.
One thing that bothered me was the author's use of “mines” instead of “mine”. I feel like that was on purpose, but it irked me to no end. Other than that, a beautiful story.
4.5/5 - I randomly bought this book because Omar Epps is the author and I was intrigued to see how he would do as a writer and he did not disappoint. I enjoyed all of the characters and the world building that was taking place to the point that I purchased the second book. It does have several POVs, so I had to get use to each person and their story. But other than that, I am a fan and cannot wait to get to the action in the next book.
4/5 - I'm down to read whatever Joya writes, and this was no different. This was a cute love story between the FMC, Nikki and her best friend, Mal. I appreciate Joya's writing style in this book as the chapters were written as a timeline. The premise of the story wasn't my favorite (the FMC auditioning for a singing group) because let's be serious, there's no singing groups in this day and age. So it came off outdated, but I was still hooked into the story. Also, it can't be a Joya story without a terrible parent! Nikki's mother angered me throughout the entire book. All in all, it was a fun read.
4/5 - I got this book on a whim at the library and I had no expectations for it. I giggled and kicked my feet the entire time because of the pure family drama. The FMC was a type A protective single mother who did it all and the MMC was an ex pro football player now turned high school football coach. I enjoyed both characters as this was a slow burn and I was satisfied at the end. The story was definitely far fetched, but that's what I love about fiction as you can make up your own world.
3.5/5 - Cute, short story just like I like it! This was interesting plot as the FMC (Covie) is on the autism spectrum and trying to navigate as an adult. I felt sad for her as her family stunted her growth by sheltering her from the world. It was nice to see her spread her wings and make friends and find love with the MMC (Jasper). Some of the dialogue made me uncomfortable because Covie gave off a child like persona so it was weird for her to interact with Jasper at times, especially when it came to the spicy scenes.
3.75/5 - I had to think about this for a few days. All in all, it was a good book and held my attention. It showed how everyone is dealing with something and it is definitely hard when the matriarch or patriarch of the family dies. When that happens, it will either bring the family together or break them apart. I love how it brought them together to help save their land.
3/5 - This was cute. I didn't really see a love triangle between the FMC and the 2 guys as the rich friend (Ezra) was never around. As someone who is always on social media, I need to stay away from the influencer trope going forward as it irritated me. I enjoyed the smut scene and the medical talk.
I honestly loved this book and thought the messaging was great when it comes to work/life balance and pouring into what actually matters to you.
What made this book great TO ME, is that there was no MISCOMMUNICATION! They both said what they were feeling and didn't hold back.
6/5 - WOW! This book was brilliant! I can't even formulate the words for how much I loved this book. 750+ pages was NOT enough as I needed more. I will be purchasing this for my book collection.
4.5/5 - Shae Sanders is up there with authors I love. She has the perfect pacing in each of her books and the dialogue is great. This was a perfect way to close out the series of the Jackson Brothers. I wasn't a fan of Issac in the first 2 books, due to his criminal history (LOL) and comparing him to his brothers, but he definitely redeemed himself in this book. The FMC Azalea's was so delusional at times with her optimistic predisposition, but I feel like that is exactly what Issac needed in his life. Azalea's Pinterest board at the end was so cute!
3.5/5 - I initially rounded this up to a 4 but after much thought, rounded it down. This was short, sweet and to the point. I remember when Eve first came out and I bought her debut album in ‘99. I was enamored by her with the paw print tatts and the blonde hair as she was different from the other rap girlies at that time. I didn't learn any new facts about her in her memoir but she seems like a very sweet person who wanted to make friends with her idols and was turned down. LOL It was also sad reading about her experience with blatant sexism/misogyny in rap, but we all know how the music industry can be, especially in hip-hop.
4/5 - This was a cute book. Very reminiscent of the HBO show Insecure (which the author was a huge fan of). I'm not always a fan of the unconfident FMC, but I appreciated Yinka doing the work to get out of that space. The book is heavily Christian based, so if you do not like the religious aspects, this book isn't for you. I also wish that older generations would hold men accountable just as they hold women accountable to getting married and having children. But I'm sure this is a huge thing within the Nigerian culture.
4.5/5 - Another depressing book about systemic racism, but in the tax sector. This was very well written as the author did extensive research and included numbers/stats. Everyone should definitely read this book.
4.5/5 - LOVED this book! Read it in less than 24 hours! Such an easy and quick read. I am a huge fan of the enemies to lovers trope.
4.25/5 - I hope we get a 3rd book to round out this series. Another great story told! All the characters were well written. I will say certain things came out of nowhere such as Zuberi and Uzochi being together. And Uzochi's father coming out of nowhere but it made sense at the end. Siran = TRASH
4.5/5 - While I am not a huge fan of insta-love, this book was great. To me, their attraction seemed organic and the MMC Maverick was the best. His energy was no non sense, which is so attractive on a man. He did not play about Peyton, and I appreciated it.
2.5/3 - For this book to be so short, I struggled to finish it. The FMC & MMC didn't have the right chemistry to claim they loved one another. The MMC was only sexually attracted to the FMC, while the FMC had the lowest self worth and was always questioning it. They didn't have any in depth conversation in order to get to know one another. They both complained about the same issues over and over so it felt redundant. And do I dare say there was too much spice! I LOVE spice, but I had to skip over certain scenes because they made no sense to what was going on at the time.
3/5 - This was ok. I wasn't wowed by the story, but it was cute. Saira (FMC) and Dorian (MMC) definitely were an insta love story, which I was fine with. However, all of their conversations were very surface level until the 80% mark. A lot of the story was wasted on talking about things I didn't necessarily care for, such as building a fire in the fire place or how to extinguish a bon fire. Those descriptions could've been left out. And the use of the word ‘Yoni' bothered me even though I understand authors are looking for more creative ways to describe our nether regions. LOL
4.5/5 - If there were real men like Sully in this world (MMC), I would've had 10 babies by now. This book was a good time. The FMC (Audrey) was a little chaotic (which I understood) but the story was great. Audrey had a great circle of friends who held her down, which I appreciated in the story.
4/5 - A very fun read! This was reminiscent of Freaky Friday but a thriller mixed with a sci-fi element. The story was fast paced and had me on the edge of my seat. I would've loved to give it a 5 but there were some plot holes that I noticed, but other than that, it was a fun ride. And the fact that Karen Malina White narrated the story was the icing!
4/5 - This was a cute time! It had a healthy balance of Christmas mixed in with some spice. IMO, the actual love story was between Noel (FMC) and her bestie Simone! I loved Simone so much because she was a straight shooter and knew Noel like the back of her hand. I truly enjoyed their friendship and banter. Oh yeah, her thing with Kanton (MMC) was cute too.
I'm sorry, but I needed this laugh! This story was a FOOL! The FMC (NuNu) was a mess and had a nasty, negative demeanor. She dogged everything and everyone around her. Everyone was fat and ugly. Poor thing didn't know what wire fraud was and also didn't know what “lenient” meant. The epitome of a terrible person. If you meet someone like her, please RUN. But it was short, which made it hard to DNF. LOL
4/5 - A good time was had with this one! I was entrenched the entire time! And the ending....WOW! Docked a point due to all of the POV's, which weren't necessary and the overuse of the word “c0ck”! It made me cringe every single time. However, Micah, weren't you tired? Were you able to eat, sleep, or think? I don't know how she kept up with all of her soul ties. It was exhausting even for me. Can't wait to read the conclusion to this story.
4.75/5 - This story was sooooo cute!! It did not feel like 72 pages AT ALL. Short, sweet and to the point. I enjoyed the chemistry between Joie and Blue! I HAD to knock off .25 due to the use of the word Yoni...please don't make this word a thing!
