Hemingway puts on paper a tragedy that many of us go through, or at the very least, think about: how many acts of heroism go unseen? Why does man go through the pain he goes through, and what is its meaning if nobody is there to recognize it? A thoughtful weekend read.
Didn't understand a word of this book. Way too pedantic for me. But hey, if you gots more smarts than me, then give it a read! I caught glimpses of beauty and fantastic character development.
“The sun will set soon. Isn't your child afraid?”
“Of course she's not afraid. She knows that the sun will rise again tomorrow.”
“You will always be the same person the bus driver was so happy to see on the first day of school.”
This book made me feel a little less alone. It gives you that feeling that everyone in the world is as confused, insecure, and anxious as you. But as Gary suggests, just say “I'll figure it out.” And then, you do.
