This book is the book. My only sadness is that I didn't discover it sooner. The thing is, the book makes you feel understood in a way nothing else has ever matched. It helps your illness feel validated like you don't have to be guilty anymore for being troubled so much. That validation helps us cope with our troubles.
When you know you're not alone in your struggles, and that you're not in the wrong for experiencing them; it empowers you to fight through and overcome.
For anyone suffering from anxiety, depression or an illness that you don't wish to label; read this book. It will save lives. Even if you just want to understand the intricacies of a suffering mind, it's perfect.
A riveting story
The kind of story you love to read and miss a lot when you can't find anymore of.
I can't recommend this enough. It gives you an entirely new perspective on life.
I'm definitely reading Matt Haig's others books
This book taught me above all else the privilege of being educated and the impact our childhood environments can have on us throughout our future lifetime.
The amount of research put into the characters of the story is just too great. Loved the story. It shows that even in war our motivations lay in protecting those we love and that the greatest of warriors must fall.
A small book about the adopted daughter of death and her fox. The story is simple and silent. There are no complicated plot or complex characters. But it's mystifying all the same.
If you want to have a quick read, then this is a recommendation.
A little cringy and clichéd when it comes to the writing style. But this is expected of most young adult books. However it is a great book with a well planned storyline and decent character arcs.
Excellent setting and storytelling. Apt usage of descriptive writing. Good and worthwhile read.
Great read that really changes your views about the world of money and the way of living that we are taught to0 aspire for.
This story was extremely riveting. It kept me on the edge, wanting to know more every chapter. It's one of the few books that have made me read for more than 2 hours at a time.
I rated it 4 stars because the conclusion was lacking. The rush in discoveries and explanations at the end of the book were understandable, however, the book ended too quickly without a positive or negative note. The ending was extremely poorly written and seemed like something that was the product of a deadline that had to be met than a sorry that was being completed.
With all that said, it's still a great series worth reading. If not for the conclusion of the story, at least for the vast number of topics it covers and gives information about in a fun way.
Since the book is the second or middle book of a trilogy series; some things are forgivable. However, one thing has to be said, it felt very much like the beginning of the book uptill the end. Reveals of plot points seemed like nothing major, it was very boring in a sense. Series like Harry Potter was written in a way where each book could be read as a standalone, this book was unable to replicate that feeling. Pergeps it did not intend to do so. With all that said, I think the book could have been more important, the story lines make it feel like something that can be skipped altogether and still have no trouble reading the last book of the series.
It is clear that the author Matthew put in a lot of research into writing this book. Everything about the book that requires being accurate are accurate. However, the story is lacking. A story needs to have some kind of purpose. If it was simply a story about the heroic escape of a plane crash survivor, then it would have been fine. However, the narrative kept hinting at some conspiracy or plot behind the protagonist being a part of the plane crash. Then it fails to deliver. We learn nothing satisfying enough to call this book a completed story other than the speculations of the protagonist. Disappointed about that. Otherwise, its a good book worth picking up to learn a bit about the artic regions and iPhones!
A very thought provoking read. With a plethora of useful words and good use of metaphorical meanings.
It's great motivation. Unlike other books in its genre, the author has actual achievements and experience under his belt.
It was very cliched but that's about it. The book is good enough for a casual read. It aint a great story though.
A very thrilling adventure that speaks of love and betrayal. Wonderfully written. Is a very satisfying and enjoyable read combined with its creative Plot.
Very original and different take on the life of a teenage Indian boy. Excellent read with the fun illustrations to go along.
Very long and elaborate style of storytelling.
It did get very boring in certain places due to the unecassary amount of descriptions, even trivial things like the complexion of soldiers are explained.
It took me a long time to complete the book, but the plot itself is very captivating.
Great read. Can't wait for the next book in this series.
Love the way it's written with the incredible characterization and storyline. It truly felt like watching a movie with my ears. Waiting for the next part.
While this book was more on the less accurate information side from the other two books in the series, it was an excellent conclusion to the trilogy. The man's and absolute legend. Kudos to you Riddle.
The best book I've read to date.
There is something magical about the way Matt Haig writes his books. It really makes you believe in the value of human life. The whole unlikelihood of the existence of life and the life of any certain individual in the way they are is so captivating and emotionally disruptive. It twists your mind on itself trying to think about how lucky and blessed you should feel to just exist.
I've had suicidal thoughts before, and depressive episodes, and I wish I had Matt's books then. Instead of writing a book full of advice to live, his approach to writing fiction with all the advice embedded in it is just perfect. Once you pick up this book it's almost impossible to put it back down without finishing it.
And just like always, this book is filled with lines worth highlighting and reading over and over again.
I couldn't recommend this book more. This should be on every human's reading list.
A decent love story and a well constructed world. However, the complete ignorance, stupidity, and entitled behaviour of the main character are great turn-offs.
There never was a purpose to the book; the story unfolded like happenstance. The main character could have had some motives, something other than just a bitchy behaviour.
It's not a recommended read from me. There are better books to spend your time with.
Excellent tale of hope and love from the depths of humanitys worst days.
Wonderful read that I'd recommend to all my friends.
