Torn between 2 and 3 stars with this one. I was really excited to read this as I love a good office romance and I was intrigued by the age difference between the two main characters (he's 41 and she's 25). I was disappointed though that I didn't really feel any chemistry between Will and Jackie. Will was a great character, almost flawless when it comes to heroes in romance novels, but Jackie was all over the place and I was so annoyed with her by the end. If she hadn't been so insecure I might have enjoyed the story more.
This slow burn, friends-to-lovers story was the perfect Christmas read! Left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. Merry Christmas!
Well this wasn't The Hating Game but I still thought it was an enjoyable read. Darcy is a character that you'll either love or hate. She's got a tough girl mentality, she says whatever is on her mind, and she's kind of an overall mess. Tom was sweet and he balanced her out well. The same playful banter was present in this book as was in THG so as long as your expectations aren't too high going into this, it should be a pleasant experience.
Another fun read from R.S. Grey! I can always count on her books when I'm in the mood for a light, fun read. I'm loving the enemies-to-lovers trope at the moment and this book didn't disappoint.
I was lucky enough to wake up to an ARC of this book on my Kindle and I devoured it in a day!
Now where do I begin? Okay, so, Easton is a MESS. He's cocky, narcissistic, does stupid things, and is generally not a person that I would ever want to be friends with. At the same time though, you can see how broken he still is from his mother's death and you can't help but wish for him to grow as a person and find his way in a world where his family is considered royalty. I feel like deep down, Easton has a good heart and he wants to do the right thing by people, he just has a not so great way of going about it.
I live for the over the top, ridiculous drama this series gives and Fallen Heir definitely delivered on that front. I was not expecting that ending and I'll definitely be counting down the days until book #5.
The first 30% of this book was a chore to get through. I've never wanted to be out of a character's head more. Vera was so negative about literally everything, it was hard to understand what Killian saw in her. I wish there would have been more dialogue/interaction between the two main characters. There was a lot of telling and very little showing.
Really late to the game with this book but better late than never I guess. I enjoyed the story as much as possible knowing going into it that both of the main characters were going to die at the end. (Not a spoiler when it's the title of the book!)
My only complaint is that because I knew the outcome going into the book, I didn't let myself get as attached to the characters as I normally would. According to BookTok, I should have been in a massive puddle of tears at the end but because I knew what was coming, it was not as emotional of a read for me as it could have been. But overall, it was an intriguing read and kept me on the edge of my seat. Definitely recommend!
I was sadly underwhelmed by this. It had a lot of hype and based on Tarryn's previous books, I was expecting to be taken on a roller coaster ride of crazy but it was actually very tame for a story about a sociopath/psychopath.
I'm not sure why I waited so long to read this book. It's not your typical romance novel, what with Evelyn Hugo having seven husbands over the course of her life, but her journey is compelling nonetheless. Out of her seven husbands, which one was the love of Evelyn's life? Going into this, I wasn't expecting the answer to that question to be what it was. But we find out early enough in the book and what follows is an epic and at times heartbreaking tale of Evelyn's successes and failures in Hollywood and the sacrifices she had to make in order to become one of the biggest actresses of her generation. Evelyn knew what she wanted and she did whatever it took to get it. I admired her tenacity and her ability to control her own narrative, even up to the very end. However, I also felt really sad for her at the same time. Evelyn Hugo's life has many twists and turns along the way that make this book unputdownable and I highly recommend it.
Disappointed that I didn't love this book as much as I loved Bright Side and Gus. I loved Franco in both of those books but I think everything was wrapped up so neatly in Gus that an entire Franco book wasn't necessary.
So this was different. Not in a bad way. It still had the same writing and unique characters I've come to expect in a Colleen Hoover novel. The thing that sets Without Merit apart from her previous novels is that the romance aspect of the book isn't the main focus.
The main focus is Merit Voss and her quirky family, including her identical twin sister, two brothers, her dad and step-mother, and her mother who still lives in the basement of the Voss family home despite being divorced from her father. Each family member harbors their own secrets and issues and instead of confronting them, they pretend like they don't exist.
Merit is not very likable in this book. She has a very negative view of everyone in her family and very low self confidence. She finally hits a breaking point and the Voss family is forced to deal with everything they've been sweeping under the rug for so long.
I really liked this book and appreciate that Colleen tried to branch out a little bit from her typical romances and focused more on the dynamics of this crazy family. My only issue is that I wish we would have gotten an epilogue a few months or a year in the future after they've been in therapy because I feel like the story ended without really wrapping anything up. I still have so many questions.
This book is everything! Beautifully written story of how we are all tied together on this earth. I felt a wide range of emotions while reading this book and was on the edge of my seat from the prologue all the way to the last page of the epilogue, which literally gave me chills and left no questions unanswered. This is a perfect book if you're looking for a romance that is so much more than just romance. The author also does a wonderful job describing life in the African plains. I swear if I closed my eyes I could picture myself there. I loved everything about this!!!
Sweet YA read that I won from a Goodreads giveaway. Only 3 stars from me because it didn't really stand out from any other books out there dealing with similar topics. I felt like the author could have written more as it was a rather quick read. The author also did a fair bit of telling what happened rather than writing those scenes out for us to experience.
I was really enjoying this book up until about the 75% mark. Then it quickly entered “wtf, ew, no” territory and it ruined the characters completely. I struggled to finish it after that.
DNF at 43%. This book is SO boring. For a romantic comedy, there has been very little of either romance or comedy taking place. I've been searching for an office romance to rival The Hating Game and unfortunately this is not it.
Walk of Shame is a perfect book if you're in the mood for something fluffy and quick to read. I liked the story well enough and this probably would have been 4 stars for me if it hadn't been for the main character constantly name dropping the designers of the clothes she was wearing. I get it, she's rich.
This book was just okay for me. The main characters had decent chemistry but I need to know more about the characters to get fully into a story and that was lacking here.
I can't think of a coherent thing to say about God-Shaped Hole without giving anything away. The very first sentence, “When I was twelve, a fortune teller told me that my one true love would die young and leave me all alone,” sets a precedence that keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time you're reading. The story of Jacob Grace and Beatrice Jordan is beautiful, heart warming, and heart breaking all at the same time. To me, a good book should make you feel things and God-Shaped Hole does just that. Tiffanie DeBartolo is brilliant and I hope she writes more in the future.
DNF at 20%. I started reading this book based solely on the cover because admit it, the cover is yummy. But other than that, nothing is really attracting me to this story. The characters are quite boring and the H is borderline stalking the h to get her to agree to a date with him, so I'm just going to say no thanks to this one and move on.
This book was just okay for me. Both MCs had their flaws. I didn't really care for Blake until the charity banquet where it was revealed that he was involved with the animal shelter. I wish the authors would have included more of that aspect of Blake because he came off as shallow for pretty much the entire first half of the book. I did appreciate that Jess and Blake's relationship was for the most part free from petty drama you see in some romance novels. I will most likely continue with this series.
This story was too unrealistic for me. No way does a 19-year-old pop star meet a 17-year-old girl and want to spend the rest of his life with her. Especially when you're the biggest pop star in the world. Maybe if you're a Belieber who has delusions that someday he'll meet you and fall head over heels for you and change his partying ways in order to be with you forever, this book will give you hope. Idk.
I would have maybe liked this story better if Vaughn had been older than 17. Certain things that happened in the book were uncomfortable to read knowing that she was a minor while Oakley is an adult. I also could have done without the cringeworthy tweets at the beginning of each chapter. Do fangirls really tweet/speak like that??
I really only read this because I want to get to Nate & Becca's book. It was a little predictable but it kept my attention. Some of the hockey-related things that happen in this series are starting to get to me though because they'd never actually happen that way in real life. Goalies aren't captains, goalies don't fight, your enforcers are not the best players, etc.
DNF. I didn't like the direction this book was heading. Weak heroine who has crazy chemistry with the hero but has a boyfriend she doesn't really seem to like but she stays with him anyways and gives up her dream because she gets pregnant by him. Not my favorite storyline.
