This book has a very similar plot to “The Last Mrs. Parrish”, so I was not surprised by the big twist at all. I know to suspect the husband from the beginning. I'm just surprised the publishers let books with almost the same plots be published. This book was a bit more entertaining and fast-paced than “The Last ..” though.
Only 10% in and I already know that I'm gonna hate this book. This has all the clichés I dislike in a rom-com: the socially awkward girl who loves to read
This is like a C-drama but a bit westernized. It was cute but I didn't feel “butterflies in my stomach” while reading it.
This book kept me second guessing all along. Didn't see the twists coming. Don't know why I never suspected the brother. But the ending did not make any sense. Why would Ellie the friend be convicted? All evidences pointed to the brother. I guess the ending was a poor attempt at a final twist.
I would enjoy this more if I were a few years younger. The main characters are just too childish sometimes (They are technically children though, with lots of kissing...). I just don't get the chemistry & the angst between the 2 mcs. Maybe I got tired of the misunderstanding/miscommunication trope.
But, this book proves one thing: Boys and girls can never be close friends. And I firmly stand by this belief.
The cutest rom-com I've ever read so far. ❤️❤️❤️
The perfect fluffy puppy-love that I never had during school years. (I so want a Wes for my own right now!!!)
The plot is simple and has been done so many time before but the execution was so good. It didn't make me feel cheesy or make me roll my eyes, which I sometimes do when reading romance. This book made me laugh along, swoon along, cry along with the characters. Thank you for letting me experience all these feels when my life is so utterly boring right now.
The ending is a bit too far-fetched, even for fiction standard.
The love triangle in the final book is annoying since there is an obvious winner.
Overall, it's not good, but at the same time not that bad.
DROPPED at 30%
Summary: a pick-me girl (not like other girls, never wears makeup and always wears oversized ugly sweater) who took advantage of “feminism” to win her way
There was some references to Vietnamese American culture which I like, thus 2 stars
Princess Diaries Asian version x Crazy Rich Asian
I feel like going to Japan alongside Izumi during her journey to Tokyo. All of my memories about Japan help me mentally picture everything in the book. It was like having a movie played in my head while reading.
The story was cute, from the father-daughter relationship between the Crown Prince & Izumi, to the fluffy romance between Izumi & the Imperial Guard... There were some LOL moments with the word choices in the book. Another plus point is that I was a bit surprised about who the real villain was. (It's a shame since I was kinda fond of that character. Felt a bit backstabbed, just like Izumi I guess)
This book just has a bit of everything for me: rich in Japanese culture & scenery, cute romance, relatable gaijin feeling when in Japan, funny banters sometimes, heartwarming family moments,...
Can't wait for book 2❤️
Just like my experience with the Hunger Games trilogy, I was only fascinated with the parts involving the Game in this book. The final 30% of the book dragged a bit but overall, it was another page-turner. I even found myself rooting for President Snow at times despite his manipulative nature. Everyone thinks they are the “good man” in their own story.

Could not take this writing style anymore.
What is the purpose of that deadly school though?
I love this as much as Lynn's previous YA book “Better than the movies”. I have read enough time-loop stories to be able to guess that Em's loop would end once she starts getting loose and having a perfect day. Yet I never could guess which day would be the perfect day. I thought the night Em was on the phone with Nick was cute and nothing could best that. Man I was so wrong once she started her “best day”. I love every minute of the date like it actually happened to me. Best book of 2022 ♡ (Please make this into a movie, Netflix!!)
Most of the characters are just mean, obnoxious, and self-centered. (the wife. the husband, the mother-in-law, the co-workers, etc.. Almost everyone in this book are just ... meh.) I skimmed through the last 30% of the book coz I couldn't stand it anymore.
not good but not too bad (probably a 2.5)
I was looking for a fluffy read but this one was trying to be a wholesome realistic one I guess? (dealing with divorce, cheating, etc.) It also didn't accomplish the wholesome realistic vibe
I kept grinning while reading this book.
The emotions and the actions here feel really real. Like I can understand why the MCs did what they did.
Câu chuyện hơi nhàm về trap boi thao túng tâm lý và cu géi hay khóc nhè. Ráng lết được 30% nhạt gần chết. Dropped!
I'm all for the royal dramas & gossips (even when it's fiction).
Though most of the main characters are so entitled, spoiled, selfish and self-centered, (the only half decent one is princess Beatrice) I still couldn't stop reading. If this is a TV series, I would binge-watch it for sure.
But why did the author feel the need to pair up every single character in this book? Why does everyone like someone and that someone happens to like someone else or is forced to be in a relationship with someone they don't love? I guess the real royals are that messed up too.
Characters that I dislike:
Sam (2nd princess) what a jealous brat! She was so mean to her sister Beatrice over a guy she had only made out with twice.
Nina (Sam's best fren) though Daphne is a manipulative bitch, she is no better for almost sleeping w the prince while he is still dating Daph.
Jeff (prince) what a love-blind useless prince.
Hey I didn't dislike Daphne even though she is the antagonist. I somewhat admire her determination & dedication.
It was cute at the beginning but quickly went downhill after about 30%. After around 60% of the book, I just skimmed to know how it ends. Still 1 ⭐️ for the train and 1 ⭐️ for some relatable quotes
Hunger games x Lord of the flies x Maze runner + some unnecessary romances
Great atmosphere (spooky/ disturbing)
Unexpected twists
But I didn't like the romance so 3 ⭐️
Started strong but finished weak. I really struggled to finished the last 30% of the book. Everything was so predictable and clichéd toward the end. I really enjoyed the beginning of this book with the world it built, and all those grimoires in it (reminding me of the “monster books” from Hogwarts). But the ending was so dragged on that I had to give it 2 ⭐️ (I was ready to give it at least a 4 at about 50% of the book.) Even the romance felt weak at the end. The chemistry between Elizabeth and Nathaniel were so cute at the beginning. Then out of nowhere they suddenly proclaimed Love for each other, which felt really rushed and forced
