A fine premise spattered with the gory unnecessary parts of a typical horror novel. Appropriate to the material, this could’ve gone so many other, better ways. (Last exit did it better.)
More uneven but with some standouts — Dying Detective, Bruce Partington, Lady Carfax (a rare horror story) and the title story.
Narrator: Stephen Fry
A solid mystery story, and a loose inspiration for the movie. Lot of old folks’ remembrances on “the good old days” in this one.
A great perennial Halloween read. Stephen Fry gives a fantastic read of an undeniable classic.
