Surviving the horrific campaign on the lost continent of Eigo, and now separated from the 109th Dragon Legion, the legendary Bazil Broketail and Dragoneer Relkin find themselves alone in the Lands of Terror. They must find a way back home to their unit. But the mysterious forest folk of this savage region are in desperate need of help in their struggles against evil slavers who prey upon them. Trying to help, Relkin is abducted and taken to the mystical city of Mirchaz, where Elven wizards hold court over a massive game of magical skills. Relkin finds himself a pawn in the cruel Game, where slaves provide psychic energy to create fantastical worlds of gameplay. With the aid of the Queen of Mice, Ribela, Relkin develops his own powers of magic, while the Broketail prepares a bold assault on Mirchaz itself that could get all of them killed.
