A fun story. I definitely think I was missing something about the story of Tiffany Aching - shoulda read the first one first.
Pratchett was still able to twirl me around a bit with fun characters, unexpected events, and non-real happenings.
Good times.
Second reading (audiobook this time). This one just doesn't do it for me, and I can't understand why. It feels heavyhanded.
Lovely books, highly recommended. I would love to see politicians speeches translated into Nac Mac Feegle.
They would much more entertaining.
I've enjoyed all the Discworld novels I've read so far, but I particularly loved this one!!
I only have the first four Discworld Death books to compare to, but it feels like Pratchett inserted his wisdom and heart deeply into the Witches and Tiffany Aching storylines. This wasn't my favorite Discworld read so far, but it's above the middle, which means it's a pretty dang good book.

I didn't completely love The Wee Free Men but I adored every book in the Tiffany Aching series that came after it. For a full review click the link above. The short of it is that Pratchett is not only a master storyteller and a crafter of brilliant, human characters (witches and Nac Mac Feegles included), but he also manages to combine hilarious moments with serious thoughts.
I wish more young girls would read Tiffany Aching.
