Five hundred years ago no-one died of stress: we have invented this concept and now we let it rule us. Using hilarious personal anecdotes from her experiences in 'celebrity land' as well as insightful tales from her own battle with depression, Ruby Wax introduces a scientific solution to modern problems: mindfulness. Outrageously witty, smart and accessible, Ruby Wax shows ordinary people how and why to change for good. With practical exercises to incorporate into your daily life, and a step-by-step six-week course based on her studies at Oxford University, A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled is the only guide you need for a happier, calmer life.

After poring through countless dry books about mindfulness, it's a relief, really, to listen to a book that doesn't take the subject too seriously. Still, Wax's witty repartee may not suit more impatient readers who want “just the facts, thank you very much”. On top of that this book has a tiny identity crisis of sorts in that it's not a straightforward how-to guide, but is also a memoir and comedy reel. I adore it though, Wax's Noo Yawk accent and wry delivery just made me LOL. I'm not sure if the written version would've been as funny.
A very good introduction to mindfulness. Its a very easy read that introduces anyone, no matter their level, to concepts and practices of mindfulness.
This is not a technical book, Ruby cheerfully talks about her life and throughout the book you not only find out about her peculiar (and often funny) life, but also how she applied mindfulness to deal with stress that normal people but also high-profile and exceedingly successful people face.
If you’re pondering about mindfulness, in a situation where you’re like one foot inside and another outside, still thinking if its for you or if it’ll leave your pinky finger cold and maybe just forget about everything and just chug some vodka to go through life, then this book is a very lighthearted, engaging, straightforward and hilarious take on the wellness practice that took the world by storm since the 80’s.
