"Free spirit Skyla Plinka has found the love and stability she always wanted in her reliable husband Thomas. Settling into her new family and roles as wife and mother, life in rural Wisconsin is satisfying, but can't seem to quell Skyla's increasing sense of restlessness. Her only reprieve is her growing friendship with neighbor Roxanne who has five kids (and counting) and a life in constant disarray--but also a life filled with laughter and love. Much to the dismay of her intrusive mother-in-law, Audrey, Skyla takes a part-time job at the local bookstore and slowly begins to rediscover her voice, independence, and confidence. Throughout one pivotal year in the life of three very different women, each will learn what it means to love unconditionally."--P.[4] of cover.

A great character study on family dynamics, A Scattered Life by Karen McQuestion was a random read that turned into something pretty epic. I loved how developed the characters all became and how intricate of a webs she wove in terms of the Plinka family and how they all relate each other. I thought Roxanne's character was really great. There's always that person that can come in your life and make changes that you didn't even know were possible. When she got diagnosed with cancer I actually cried. It was so tragic for such a good, likeable character to be snatched away. Thankfully, the story ends with hope that people do change and life does go on. Death is a part of all of us, and sometimes it's that push that jumpstarts the rest of your life.
Wonderful read, I might have had some moments where I didn't know where she was going with the story but it all came together beautifully.
