I might've give it another extra star but About That Night disappoints me at one level.
Witty dialogues, check. Gorgeous main characters, check. Steamy sex, dirty words and multiple orgasms, check and check and check. Funny moments, check. Sooo... why does this novel disappoints me so? Alas, it has become one of those chick lits/contemporary romances that is cliched.
Yes, it does tell the story of the main characters, Kyle - the Twitter Terrorist and Rylann - Meth Lab Rylann/Prosecutrix Pierce. But that's all. He met her, got caught in her smile, kissed her one night and stood her up on their very first date nine years ago. Of course, as fate would have it, they meet again, under different circumstance. He's the con, she's the prosecutor. How convenient.
And how very predictable.
If you're familiar with James' works, you'll get it. It predictable from the very first chapter.
A fun, light read, if that is what you're looking for.
3.5 stars. Unfortunately, without the mystery element (even the minimal ones the other books had) this one just ended up being...less than satisfying.
Still made me laugh out loud, and I enjoyed it. Also, Kyle is the farthest from my type there could be...personality wise, so there is that too. And I never really got over the fact that her name is Rylann. Annoying.
Gahhh, I just love these books so much!
Julie James is fantastic at writing books that just make you so happy!
I love Rylann's sass, it's fucking fantastic, and oh my god, I can't even with how cute Kyle is, and why why why with the whole thing that happened nine years ago, and ugh, this might be my favorite of them, but gosh, I don't even know.
I absolutely LOVED the business aspect, seeing Kyle get his business going, it was so cool, made me want to start my own company there for a second, gosh and I just fucking love these attorneys, okay, my GOD, it's fantastic.
The book was hilarious and amazing and I needed some fluff and I finally got it, and it made me so happy, and squeals hysterically for two hours
While I loved Smug Dimples and Prosecutrix Pierce, I just don't know about Meth Lab Rylann and the Twitter Terrorist. I was expecting something...more from Julie James. This just didn't live up to my expectations. But I think that was because I was hoping for another dishy FBI agent, not, well, not El Twitter Terrorista.)
I'm a huge fan of Julie James, I've read all her books, and their trademark trait is awesomeness. Something About You absolutely blew me away, but A Lot Like Love and About That Night didn't come as close as I would've wanted it to the perfection of the first book. I've been waiting, anticipating this book for some time now. And while this is everything I want in a creditworthy romance read, it just didn't have the Julie Jamesiness I was hoping for.
