Well that answered a question - Does one of your favourite authors approach short stories the same way and long novels? The answer is yes. Great concept, wonderfully executed in exposition and same head scratching denouement which has you shaking the kindle to make sure you downloaded the full story and are not missing the penultimate 2 or 3 chapters. Once you read it (and I do urge you to do so), you will know what I mean.
In this novella, Neal Stephenson truly embraces his signature style, delving into a plethora of technological concepts, all compacted within a mere 100 pages. I found myself thoroughly impressed, especially considering Stephenson's reputation for crafting weighty tomes like “Seveneves.” Here, he weaves a visionary narrative, incorporating high-tech concepts and a handful of characters to fashion a compelling story.
What sets this novella apart from Stephenson's other works is its brevity; you can easily read it in just an hour and a half. It exceeded my expectations.

This one really didn't do it for me. It was a quick read, but it was pretty much just about building a tower, and engineering. This may appeal to some people, but it wasn't for me.

nice little short
Fun short story about the idea of a tall building, it's construction as well as a few key events that occur along the way. Good thought experiment.
