Awww, this was so sweet. And I zoomed through it so quickly without even realizing! Who would've thought I'd be calling a book about giant blue aliens a beautiful story? I'm so glad I gave these books a chance.
I skipped Harlow and Ruhk. I know, I know. In a way I'm glad I did and came back to reading it later. I think I skipped it because Harlow has a brain tumor and Ruhk literally knocks her in the head because he's a legit Barbarian and didn't understand they were resonating. I just couldn't go into a book like that. I decided to come back to it because Harlow and Ruhk are sprinkled into every book and the love Ruhk shows for Harlow is so intense and pure. Harlow doesn't really say much about her connection to Ruhk in the other books since she's mostly talking about techy things.
This book was pretty amazing. Harlow is amazing. Ruhk is amazing. They have one of the best relationships in the series along with one of the most interesting.
Now... I'm done done.
you can tell this was written by a woman because the male love interest is a barbarian (who's even more barbaric than the OTHER Ice Planet Barbarians) who has essentially no knowledge of spoken language whatsoever (like not English but also barely any of the alien language all the OTHER aliens on the ice planet speak)...but he understands and obeys the word NO. chef's kiss
if you have questions about how this language-less alien is able to narrate his half of the book and if his language processing center of his brain may have decayed over time.......no you don't
this was so silly but fun and I am obsessed with the reveal that all the human women are going to give their kids "Brangelina" style names AKA RENESMEE STYLE NAMES!!!
hehee anyway I do think that for now, at least, my curiosity has been sated regarding the Ice Planet Barbarians and I don't feel the need to read more of these. At least not unless anyone tells me some real bonkers detail that I might want to investigate. until then...it's been real
I really lost my momentum with this installment of IPB... There was just something off in the vibes.
One of the most alluring aspects of this series is that the male characters are the ideal balance of manly-protective man & sensitive-caring-giving man. I also love how the women are constantly empowered in various ways. However, both of those felt pretty lost here to my dismay. I also felt a little icky about the intimacy between the two main characters due to their circumstances... Bummer!
my least favorite of the series so far but i'm too invested to stop send help
“Barbarian Mine” takes the classic Tarzan narrative and spins it into an exciting, fresh perspective, perfectly blending the familiar with the novel. Set in a vividly described alien world, the book introduces us to a strong, independent heroine and her Tarzan-esque alien counterpart. Their unique dynamic and the development of their relationship are central to the story, offering a delightful twist on the classic ‘stranger in a strange land' theme. The author skillfully navigates the challenges and nuances of communication and cultural differences, adding depth and authenticity to the characters' interactions. This novel goes beyond the simple retelling of a familiar story; it expands on the themes of love, survival, and understanding, making it a captivating read for fans of romance and science fiction alike. The fresh take on the Tarzan trope adds an intriguing layer of complexity, ensuring that “Barbarian Mine” is more than just a rehash of an old story, but a novel that stands on its own merits.
A bit bored during the first half but it picked up eventually! I liked the different concept of it, a lone wolf Tarzan type.
Enjoying this as mindless reading.
