In this study Paul Lester makes a fresh examination of the life and work of Walter Brierley. Brierley was one of the writers in the 1930s Birmingham Group, which also included Walter Allen,Peter Chamberlain, John Hampson and Leslie Halward. He was author of the classic 'Means Test Man'(1935),and several other novels dealing with the Midlands of England mining community he grew up in. This work is one of a series on British working-class writers by Paul Lester.
