The author does a fabulous job of presenting this story from the middle of the road. There is not an inherent bias that affects the portrayal of these people. He does give his opinion at the very end, so we know where he stands after we have made our own decisions. It would have been interesting to read his opinion about why the perpetrator(s) behaved as they did, but that wasn't well within the scope of the novel and would have had to be shoe horned in. Well written book about a horrible crime.
