Bombshell

This book is one of my favourites this year, yes yes, I know I've said that a lot but it truly is. I think it might actually be my favourite book by CD Reiss and that is saying something. I really connected with this book, as a former nanny I could relate to Cara and her experiences with the children and trying not to get too attached and failing, the effects when it's over. Brad Sinclair is dreamy. What I loved about this book is that it isn't a straight forward romance, it is not just about two people meeting and falling in love. It has that, don't get me wrong, but it has the added element of two people falling in love with a special little girl and it was heart melting. I devoured this book in a day, it was so good, I just couldn't put it down. Christine has a way with words and creating a story that just envelopes the reader in a cocoon where they forget they have commitments and to eat because they are so engrossed.

I have read a number of books by this author and they are usually REALLY GOOD! and this one is no different. Even though most have a very BDSM feel this one didn't but this one was amazing!

Five year old Nicole Garcia, with very little effort on her part, is pretty good at making messes. Not only does she make a really impressive mess of the ladies room in the opening pages of Bombshell by C.D. Reiss, but just by her existence she's managing to make a mess of Brad Sinclair's life.

A-list actor, Hollywood heartthrob and deserving recipient of the title ‘playboy', before child services came calling, Brad had no idea that he'd been a father for the last five years. In fact he can barely recall his daughter's mother at all, but after she lost her life an unfortunate traffic accident, the responsibility for raising Nicole has fallen to him, and much as he might be unprepared to play that role, it's one that he can't afford to pass on. Not if he values his career.

Naturally, as most in the industry do, he turns to outside help, not just to guide him in raising his newly discovered offspring, but to do most of it for him, and that's where Cara DuMont, professional nanny comes in. Together with her BFF Blakely, she's charged with Nicole's day to day care, and against her better judgement, which generally has her steering clear of celebrities and the almost inevitable tabloid press speculating about relationships between celebrity fathers and the nannies they've hired, she agrees to take on the job on a purely temporary basis.

Given what seems a fairly predictable premise, I found this book to be a well paced read with a surprisingly intricate plot-line, replete with twists and surprises, subplots that took unexpected turns and secondary characters that were well conceived and in one or two cases, just as engaging as the main characters.

Right from the opening chapter, Reiss has a sizzling chemistry burning between Brad and Cara, and their dual point of view, first person exploits almost read like a tell all expose revealing the dirty underside, not just of the Hollywood elite, but of the nannies that serve them.

Quite simply I found that page after page kept me spellbound as the selfish and the selfless, honorable and dishonorable, cowardly and brave all play out their disparate agendas when all the wile, one tragically brave little girl is caught up in the unpredictable currents stirred by those who surround her.
