I've tried to read this series many times and they just aren't for me. I lost interest very quickly.
Color me shocked when I finished book 1 and felt such a need to continue the series. And my excitement to see a heroine vastly different from the first?! Yeah, this book is another fun one. I'm not a huge fan of their conflict, but that is more of a personal reading choice, and if I'm being completely honest this made made it WORK here. The decisions, at their core, make sense and the characters feel and act like adults. Again, I was expecting emotions to play a different way because I'm used to romance novels, but then the heroine would act how I think a normal person would act, which makes this book feel special.
Okay, I'm trying not to spoil anything which is hard when I want to talk about little details done in refreshing ways. So, let me move on. This book, unlike the last, is told in dual POV. I like this and it really helped explain what is going on that we might have missed from just Nelle's side of things. Also, Nelle! She's so curious, willing to learn, honest, straight-forward– I really like her character.
I would say this romance feels a little slower than the first book even if there are hints of fated mates – I say slower as a good thing! I loved the build up.
So, again, I'm thrilled that I started reading this series and even more excited to see the third book is out– just in time! Of course I'm going to go jump on that one now!
