American author, James Jones, wrote in 1951this classic though brutal work about life in a military camp in Hawaii in 1941. Jones portrays the extreme feelings which dictate the relationships of the men and women there. Transferred to the big screen by Fred Zinnemann, the film won eight Oscars: best picture, best director, best adapted screenplay (Daniel Taradash), best supporting actor (Frank Sinatra) and best supporting actress (Dona Reed), amongst others.
