Marca Nbaro had always dreamed of serving aboard the Greatships, with their vast cargo holds and a crew that could fill a city. They are the lifeblood of human-occupied space, transporting an unimaginable volume - and value - of goods from City, the greatest human orbital, all the way to Tradepoint at the other, to trade for xenoglas with an unknowable alien species. And now, out in the darkness of space, something is targeting them. Nbaro and her friends are close to locating their enemy, in this gripping sequel to the award-nominated Artifact Space, but they are running out of time - and their allies are running out of patience . . . Written by one of the most exciting new voices in SF, this space thriller will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

Miles is one of my favorite authors because of the characters he writes. They feel real, they struggle with their code, and they evolve as I read the book. Nablo is no different; she has a lot of baggage and trauma as she reimagines her life and tries not to let the way she was raised destroy the person she wants to become. The first book felt like she was in recovery; in this one, you start to see her blossom, and I am looking forward to seeing her mature.
The setting is magnificent: huge great ships carving through the outer reaches of space, conspiracy, and politics nipping at the system, and a mystery that kept me tense. On the horizon, you have aliens that are truly alien appearing and signs that the old systems are breaking down. It is a fantastic setting with great use of economics and time.
I can't wait for book three and where it goes next!
