really enjoyed this, though i have to caveat my rating/review by saying i picked this up because it had been tagged as humor and i wanted to read something lighter in between heavy reads. i think it's completely mis-shelved and i would honestly say possibly even a little triggering? the main character here goes through what i would put as an awakening to the reality and injustice of society throughout this book, and there were some parts especially near the end that were super heavy and intense to read. it was so well done and smart though, and i really enjoyed being in ingrid's head through her journey here. i think my main negative is just that i think it was a smidge too long. but overall a really good and engaging read and i'm glad i picked it up, the last 30% of the book especially was so cathartic. still have no idea why this is shelved as humor tho ...
future sophia back here to say: i just read some other people's reviews and i see now that i COMPLETELY missed the satire part of this book. like it's supposed to read like a romcom but it's actually a criticism on disillusionment with society?? but i feel like that humor/satire component super did not land for me AT ALL. instead i just assumed ingrid really was just not paying attention most of her life, which DID feel super off in the beginning, but because she does grow through the story i didn't have a huge issue with it. but reading these reviews now and seeing what i didn't see when i read it is almost making me want to bring my rating down, like i genuinely thought this was just lit fic. ah, well ... 1 day later after thinking about it some more, yeah i bumped my rating down. still good and glad i read it, but yeah.
