With danger at every turn and harrowing secrets between them, the quest will require much more than determination. They must fight for what they desire-or die trying. For fans of The Cruel Prince, and The Lord of the Rings comes Beck Michael's debut novel with remarkable characters, a budding romance, and gripping action. Divine Blood is the first book of an Epic Dark Fantasy series that explores the depths of loss, acceptance, and the true meaning of courage.

I bounced between a 3.5 and 4 star rating but the more I read the more I found myself really into the story HOWEVER sometimes I felt myself putting the book down. I felt like some scenes were just a bit too long but I did go back for more. I really like Dyna, more than i thought I would by the end. I like my females MC hardcore and sassy and bold...she had an internal strength that was very admirable. She's very young and untested in the world since she lives in an isolated village but she went off to do what needed to be done so that nobody else in her village would die (She'd already witnessed her parents and brothers death). That may seem naive and gullible but when the elders are literally doing nothing to stop what is coming, you take matters into your own hands.
It's not only told from her POV. There's also Zev and Cassiel. Cassiel is definitely a favorite. So sassy is our winged prince LOL. Definite slow burn romance...and I mean SLOW BURN. I'm okay with slow slow burn if done right and while I felt like it was...I'm not going to lie... I want it to be kicked up a notch in the next book. And I absolutely want the next book after that cliffhanger!
Spoiler-Free Review:
I have been seeing this book all over Instagram and, since I'm going rogue on the TBR this month, I decided to give it a shot! It was so worth it! The first 50% of the book was a bit slow paced and there was a ton of world building and information. I found the story intriguing but it didn't consume me which is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. The pacing of the second half of the book was much quicker as the story developed and the plot thickened. This book is a YA fantasy. Enemies to lovers vibes are strong although it hasn't quite fully developed in the story yet. This book gave me Fellowship of the Rings vibes- a group a very different beings going on a quest with a common goal. It's been fun to see where the journey takes them and get to see it from multiple POVs. When I say this is multi-POV, y'all there's so many POVs! I absolutely loved getting to see the story unfold from so many sides. I'm convinced Beck Michaels is a POV wizard! The book is well written with amazing imagery and storytelling. The female main character Dyna is a gentle soul who loves fiercely and with everything she has. Cassiel is a tortured soul that seeks acceptance. I just love them both. It's the slowest burn and so much tension. I'm hoping we get to see more of their relationship develop in book 2, Bonded Fates. The side characters are amazing, and I feel that they're well-developed since we get to see their POV. Everyone has a different mission with one common link. I found myself rooting for them all to succeed. Like I stated before this is a YA fantasy 16+ for mild language. I cannot wait to dive into book 2 soon!
