A young woman, Elma Sands, is found dead in a well and all fingers point to her suitor, Levi Weeks. The unlikely team of political opponents, Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr, defend the young man from the charges in this very readable real-life mystery.
I don't remember when I've read a nonfiction book that was not only written as smoothly as a novel but was as carefully footnoted as this one (almost a third of the book is footnotes!)
