That last 200 pages was unputdownable!
A lot of reveals were executed nicely, even if they were hiding under your nose. The Dyvoks were terrifying, and their brutal punishments were difficult to read. Two unreliable narrators also added to the story's suspense, particularly in the final section. Surely there will be a book 3 and I want to witness more epicness in the empire of the damned.
The easiest 5 stars I'll be giving all year for sure. Idk how Kristoff did it but it's even better than the first book. So much action, so much heartbreak, so much betrayal, and so...much....blood!
Kristoff did something nifty and decided to let Gabriel's sister Celine get a chance to tell her side of the story and it was refreshing although I didn't like it as much as Gabriel's parts of course. Celine is starting to become even more interesting and she's only giving us a little bit of information at a time, to where she's just about to tell us but she gets cut off mid sentence. Gotta sell the next book somehow right?
I really don't care about the action at all, not that I don't really enjoy it, but because the character's journey is so good that if there wasn't a lick of action I would still give this 5 stars. Best 2nd book I've ever read and in my top 5 series ever for me so far!
My only gripe with this book is for the physical book itself. The papers are so thin it could cut an atom in half and the cover is retarded. Gone are the days of beautiful covers and quality binding. Just charge us a couple bucks more and make the quality good
