This book seeks to give the student of English runes an understanding of their use, sound-values, and pronunciation, as well as a guide to their transliteration both from epigraphy and into literary-standard Old English. Their names and associations are also discussed, particularly in light of the Old English Rune Poem. A number of runic inscriptions are examined such that the reader ought to gain a sound grasp of the principles of transliteration and interpretation along with an appreciation of the difficulties involved therein.
