I would've gone with a 3.5 rating if possible. I love Amanda Flower's series, but so far this one isn't my favorite. I had a hard time connecting with Shiloh and many of the people around her were pretty unlikable, at least at the beginning.
That said, I did adore Huckleberry! And the mystery contained a clever twist. I also enjoyed the subplot with Esmeralda :)
I love usually love cozy mysteries, but I think the author forgot the “cozy” in this one. Christ on a cracker, why was every single character so damn mean to the heroine? Like, over the top mean. Even her own damn father. Who frankly deserved to lose his damn farm for not being a responsible adult and paying his f-ing taxes! And to rip her a new one for finding an investor who turns out is shady. How was she supposed to know that living in Los Angeles when her father wouldn't even talk to her about any of it??!!
Seriously people, this book pissed me off SO much!
This cozy looked like a great new series to check out, and it exceeded my expectations! Nice, clean (except one swear) little murder mystery set in a small town in Michigan. The leading lady is trying to figure out how to turn a 200-acre farm into an organic one after her father ran it into the ground as his health worsened. But no sooner does she find a willing investor to help her get that goal accomplished than she finds out he's the town's number-one enemy...and then she heads to a meeting with him and she's the first person on the scene to find him murdered!
The book is full of small-town charm and I'm eager to read more in this series.
