The Seven Realms is one of my favorite young adult fantasy series so I was thrilled to hear there would be a new series about the next generation. Flamecaster, the first book in this series, was one of my most anticipated 2016 releases.
Unfortunately, I found it had the same major weakness as the first Seven Realms book with none of its strengths. It took me FOREVER to get into Flamecaster–about half the book, which is over 500 pages. Unlike The Demon King, it never made me care about any of the main characters by the end. If I do read the next book, it will be because of my great fondness for the Seven Realms quartet since this book on its own didn't make me want to read more.

Madam Chima still got it!
The story starts off dark
with death and broken hearts.
Our heroes become assassins and rebels
in this dark world where an evil king
wages war on the Wolf Queen of the Fells.
You don't need to read the previous series
to enjoy the adventures, magic, and schemes of this one
but you'll be doing yourself a disservice if you don't
go back and read them while you wait for the sequel to Flamecaster.
I didn't expect to really like this one. But then I “unintentionally” listened to half the book in one sitting. Ha! I put the audio on while I was driving with my 8 year old - the next day she asked if I could put the story back on.
I really only had the one point where I wished the story went a different direction, but that'd be spoilers, so...
The story was good, but too drawn out. My greatest like is that the main character is named Adrien, which is one of my favorite character names.
I think the plan for the book was god, but the author added to much description/ detail that you kinda lost where the story was heading.
The cover I had was gorgeous though!!
