I gave this book 5 Stars even though it has a very slow start. I felt the author was “stringing the reader along” unnecessarily - when he wouldn't reveal what transpired “in the forest” right away. However, when the TRUE plot unfolded, it was worth the wait...I was hooked! Mark Edwards has a masterful technique which enables the reader to visualize exactly what he is communicating through his characters. He is a superb writer, with an articulate style, a perceptive eye, and an exceptional gift for articulating human fallibility. Simply put: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters, the scenery, the plot and the multiple surprise endings were riveting and surprising. The book is basically about a couple's train ride through the Romanian countryside and the perils they encounter during and after their journey. If you enjoy mystery and thrilling tales of the dark side of humanity, you will certainly enjoy this book. Excellent job Mark Edwards!
