The Restoration Court knows Lady Dona St Columb to be ripe for any folly, any outrage that will alter the tedium of her days. But there is another, secret Dona who longs for a life of honest love -- and sweetness, even if it is spiced with danger.
It is this Dona who bored and restless, flees the stews of London for remote Navron, looking for peace of mind in its solitary woods and hidden creeks. She finds there the passion her spirit craves -- in the love of a daring pirate hunted by all Cornwall, a Frenchman who, like Dona, would gamble his life for a moment's joy.
Together, they embark upon a quest rife with danger and glory, one which bestows upon Dona the ultimate choice: sacrifice her lover to certain death or risk her own life to save him.

Read on the same day we went to Frenchman's bay (cold and not nearly so romantic). Fun; would read more by her if I come across it in a book box.
a 17th century noble woman goes to distance with her shallow life in London “escaping” to Cornwall where she falls in love with a French pirate. Very romanticised and full of syrup. I probably had read this before, the ending was suspiciously familiar for myself.
