Beach Book Checklist: 1. Some type of water scene on the cover because you just gotta 2. High probability of a happy ending so you don't end up crying and getting sunscreen in your eyes 3. Medium to heavy queer content to match all the rainbow striped umbrellas lining the coast (this requirement not limited to beach reads)

And this book was the perfect beach read. Flawed, lovable main characters who I couldn't help but root for; cute, slow-build romance; and a sweet cast of found-family side characters. Good pacing up until the ending. I thought the conflict was resolved way too quickly and easily, packaged away neatly and wrapped with a shiny bow, but tbh that's kinda what I want in a beach read so it didn't bother me as much as it usually would.
