We read this one aloud again. It seems to be on all the recommended reading lists. It is a perfect September/October read, but it went well with where we are to bring it back out again to read alongside Ox-Cart Man to talk about the flax and grain of wheat. We also appreciated it being true Neopolitan seminola wheat, because that, we gluten-free people, can eat. I'm not in love with the illustrations, but they are whimsical and really appeal to my children. We originally bought a copy of this book to go along with the Memoria Press read alouds. I believe it is mentioned in Kindergarten and First Grade. We own a paperback copy and recently bought another book by the same author to read soon with our Around the World in Picture Books study.
