This book started off good I enjoyed the dual perspective and the mystery factor of how it would all come together at the end. The middle was very slow and very repetitive, and I started not liking it after Maggie dies, and the flashback chapter starts. The twist blew me away, how “Ben” was Aimee's long-lost brother. It's been awhile since a twist had took me by that much of a surprise. It was disgusting, and the fact that she STILL sleeps with him after finding out (and becomes pregnant!!!!!) I found no character likable, they all really annoyed me. The twist saved the book for me, even though I hated it, it was shocking and made the boring parts worth it.
This was such a disturbing book. Not my cup of tea. Now I need to remove what I read from my memory.

I had heard from somebody that the ending is “gross.”
From her first flashback recalling her brother, I looked at my partner and said how much you want to bet that it's incest? So I went through the whole book knowing that incest was a part of this. The only twist that I didn't see coming was that “Maggie” was the brother aka her “missing/dead” husband. So the incest didn't appear to me as shock value cause I already knew but in the end I have to agree, it's still gross. I wish at the end she didn't have to then add another sex scene to further imply the grossness.
Recensie van audioboek (via Storytel)
Het begin was meeslepend, maar daarna werd het een beetje repetitief. En dat einde, ugh, zo belachelijk, ongeloofwaardig en gewoon yuk en neen...
This book was on track to be a 5 star read for me, until a disturbing twist at the end. I just can't stop being repulsed by some of the action at the end of the story. However, I still enjoyed most of the book, so it gets a 3.5 stars.
The main character, Aimee Sinclair, is an actress and often in the story it is hard to tell if she is sincere. I actually like that aspect of the story because I like an unreliable narrator. She had a troubled past with some traumatic events happening to her as a child. This has damaged her and made her susceptible to manipulation. People from her past come back to haunt her present. At some points I felt sorry for her, but at other times I did not like her. All the other characters except for maybe one are unlikable. But I am okay with that in a thriller.
The story line shifts from present to past throughout the narrative with Aimee as the narrator for most of it. A second narrator enters the picture toward the end and adds an interesting angle to the story. However, when the author reveals who that second narrator actually is, the truth is quite bothersome. I can't say more than that without spoiling it, but trust me that it is a bit disgusting. I figured some of it out while reading, but I never imagined it would be quite so twisted.
Overall, I enjoyed reading the book. I was engaged and interested throughout. If not for the ending twist and its disturbing nature, I would have rated this higher.
Definitely not my favourite from this author, the twist/ending was a bit too WTF for me.
The writing was still good and narration by Stephanie Racine was amazing as always.
went into this fully knowing people don't like it and I was just very curious. this was so fucking stupid lmao and don't even get me started on the ending
