Book 10 of the Dumarest saga - Jondelle - is something different. It is one of the rare books in the first twelve that is not named after the female femme fatale.
Jondelle is a young boy on the planet Ourelle. After Dumarest fights off brigands and is injured, he is taken in by Jondelle's family. Then, other brigands attack and kill the family and kidnap the boy. Because the young boy reminds Dumarest of himself, perhaps at the age he was when he stowed away on his first ship off of Earth, Dumarest takes it on himself to rescue the boy.
The rest of the story takes place on Ourelle as Dumarest travels to the barbarian regions of Ourelle and faces dangers and treachery, stopping on the way to rescue the femme fatale of the book, Neema.
Is Dumarest successful?
Does he get any clues to his lost homeworld?
Since there are another twenty books in the series, one might think “not much,” but it may be the case that value of Jondelle is in his interbred lineage that may be a part of the Original People that Dumarest is seeking.
