Wonderful!!
There is a sweet romance, an evil wizard, secrets, and an enchanted house! This book has a great balance of those things. It is cozy and it is exciting. It is suspenseful and happy. It was such a pleasure to read.
I would not consider myself a person who would enjoy romance novels, but I have come across a number of novels that are heavily romantic that I have enjoyed. Charlie Holmberg has a style that I enjoy and tells a very entertaining story.
I particularly like that the main characters are quite relatable and normal in who they are and how they behave. Albeit, this story is set in the 1840s, and so they behave in a normal way for how people are often portrayed to have behaved in the 1840s.
This is a good one for those who are looking for a story that moves and entertains without needing to keep track of a complex plot.
I loved it! This is the third book I've read from this author and she never disappoints me. Can't wait to read the next book in this series ❤️
This was one of those books that grabbed my interest, and I devoured it in a couple days between full time job, mom duties with two under 4, and house chores. I find myself wondering if the plot might have benefitted from a Part 1 (Silas), Part 2 (Merritt meets Hulda), and Part 3 (narratives collide) instead of interspersing the character narratives based on the timeline. I get why we have the story we have, and I really enjoyed Merritt and Hulda's storyline. I kinda feel like I would have loved it even without the whole Silas horror thread, but then that would have been a different, closer to historical fantasy romcom, story.
I struggled with some of the vocabulary, even being a historical fiction, romance, and fantasy reader by preference. Even Kindle and Google didn't have definitions for some of the words! The writer storyline was cute and relatable. Very interested to see where this goes in the second book.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – LOVE the cover on this one!
This is my second 5 star read of the year and it's only January!
