This book had its strong parts, but the “not like other girls trope” and some other things made me feel like sometimes I was reading something off of Wattpad. Which...was meh to me.
honestly this shit is corny as hell but it doesn't matter because i love a good campy melodramatic moment and this book was SO much fun
This was one of the plot twist is saw coming from about 40% into the book. Wasn't really into it but the hits and teasing were obvious enough. Still enjoyed the book, really liked the characters
would i say this book is good? absolutely not. did i devour the absolute toxicity? completely. this was very similar to from blood and ash which i personally really enjoyed so depending on how you feel about that book, will probably predict how you feel about this one
I had high hopes for this book when I started it, but was less than impressed by the time I finished it. Isolde was pretty frustrating as a character and the story was just not there. So many plot holes that were unexplained and ignored to make room for their relationship issues.
I wanted to love this book. I wanted so much to love it, but it just fell a tad flat for me. Was it a fun read? Hell yes! Was the spice good? Extremely! But I had a few issues with the plot and some characters. Let's start with what I liked. I liked that Isolde (the FMC) was a fighter first. She didn't take any shit from anyone and I liked that. I also always love an enemies to lovers trope and one horse trope and this book had both of those. Adrian (MMC) would do anything for the people he cares about which I love in a male character. He and Isolde have some really tender moments. As for what I didn't like... I felt the storyline was kind of predictable. This book was heavy on the “I shouldn't want this man but I do” trope. I know this comes with an enemies to lovers trope, but it was mentioned so frequently that it got repetitive. I also didn't like how if the characters were arguing they frequently used sex to move past it or reconnect and there wasn't a lot of actual communication about the issues. Overall I thought it was a fun read. The story picked up a lot toward the end and has me curious for book 2 so I will probably read it when it comes out. However, I personally enjoyed the authors other series more. This is definitely an adult read. 18+ for sexual content and language.
Dnf. Bad paceing terrible smut and i hate the ‘oh the vampire is the one good guy and not misogynistic'
4/5 Stars.
King of Battle and Blood. This book was filled with action, spice, vampires, monsters, and a twist you kinda see coming. A cool world map included which always helps you picture things.
Isolde is a strong women, and Princess who is forced to marry the sexy vampire king Adrian. “I refuse to fall under the weight of these circumstances, not when I had so much at my fingertips.” Isolde doesn't give up and always does what she thinks is right. The entire book is through her point of view.
I look forward to the next one, I wasn't the biggest fan of the twist thats why I knocked it down a star!
This book follows Isolde, a Princess to a throne in a world where vampires are conquering everyone's lands, and Adrian, the vampire doing the conquering. When Adrian comes to discuss terms with Isolde's father, he says he wants to marry Isolde. She agrees to save her kingdom. Romance follows.
This book wasn't good. The plot was nothing unique; I've read this same premise before. I felt like the big reveal at the end ruined any of the romance that happened previously because Isolde wasn't told. The steamy scenes weren't that great to make up for the bad plot. Adrian and Isolde weren't interesting characters. Isolde does a whole 180 on her views on the conquest? I only gave it 2 stars because it was interesting enough that I finished it in one sitting. But it still wasn't good, just entertaining mindless reading.
TW: sexual content, blood, violence, murder, death, gore, death of parent, fire, war, grief, misogyny, colonization, slavery
saw the twist coming from a mile away but the overall story was enjoyable either way.
I honestly don't get the really negative reviews for this!! After reading a few I went into this with fairly low expectations but I ended up really enjoying it.
Are there similar tropes to other fantasy romance books? Of course, but when isn't there? It's extremely hard for a story to be truly original so there's always going to be similarities, especially in this genre where books are so popular and beloved that the fandoms are literally crazy.
I could have done with a little bit more build up between Isolde and Adrian, and a little more backstory on the world and how Adrian came to taking over, but all in all I really enjoyed this and can't wait for the next one!
This didn't really work for me, that's why it took me this long to finish the audiobook.
The world is somewhat interesting but it was too much like From Blood and Ash.
The characters were okay. It was slow, the world was underdeveloped and the plot was all over the place. I was thinking I might enjoy the romance at least, but there was no pining at all in it. I mean... they were enemies... And then BAM they were in bed. No pining, no longing, nothing. It was just weird.
It was slow paced and nothing interesting really happened in the middle. There was mention of a hunting, but I still don't understand what exactly it was and what was the point.
The ending only reiterated what I didn't like in it. The final scenes made no sense at all and only served the purpose of a second book.
Isolde's father was ready to go to war with Adrian for Isolde's sake (everyone would die!) and then he tries to kill her, because Adrian would die too, in the end? Whaaaat? Way out of character. Made no sense at all.
Additionally, I don't usually like the trope used to forge a connection between Isolde and Adrian, and the foreshadowing was so heavy-handed that I could see it coming from a mile away.
