I'm on the fence about this book. On one hand it was terrific to see these characters re-imagined in another time and place. But I felt the beginning of the story was a bit slow and in the end I was left wishing it would have been a little deeper. In all it was fun.
While maybe an interesting idea the end result just felt rather plodding and dated. I know it is nearly 20 years old but some of the themes felt like it was more 50 years old. Is it to much to ask that if you are re-writing the past and creating new hero's that you also take the opportunity to imagine old wrongs being corrected too? Particularly the undertones that the pilgrims are the true America.
short review: It was okay, but not great. Too much character development of characters that you already know from another time line. And not enough plot. I tend to want more character development from almost everything I read. So that is an odd complaint from me.

I wasn't sure about this. On the one hand, I'm a sucker for the Elizabethan era but, on the other, I couldn't get into Gaiman's Sandman. However, I was pleasently surprised with this comic. I really enjoyed seeing superheroes and historical figures alike, as well as seing how the superheroes stories intertwined with the real historic events of the time. There were also quite a few twists that I didn't see coming but that could also be my lack of Marvel knowledge.
The art for all the issue covers is amazing and it was also fun seeing the Elizabethan twist on the different characters' usual suits.
I'm now intrigued about Doctor Strange and Clea as well as the other issues within this universe.
