One of the best, if not THE best biography I've ever read. Never before has there been so much interesting detail about not only Mary but her family, friends, and enemies. She describes the clothes Mary wore, the way she did her hair, the way she thought. If you were like me and you don't really know much about Queen Mary and you want to know about not only her but everyone else around her then this is the book for you, but if you're only interested in just knowing about her then I do not recommend this book. The only thing that is ANNOYING about this book is that the author writes a lot of French quotes that she doesn't interpret in English so have fun with that.
I hadn't realized this book wasn't so much about Mary as it is about proving that Mary did not murder her second husband, Lord Darnley. It is thoroughly and well researched, but I don't really care that much about whether Mary actually knew about the plot or not. I would have preferred a book that provided a fuller picture of Mary and wasn't so focused on the murder plot. It was pretty hard for me to get through for that reason. But, if you're really interested in the full picture of the murder plot, this book is for you!
