This addition to the Giver series felt more heavy-handed and preachy than the other two; I felt uncomfortable rather than intrigued or entranced while reading it.
Partagé. Autant c'est un plaisir de voir réunis les deux univers précédents, autant la fin me paraît tardive et bâclée, voir un peu trop facile. Dommage. On verra ce que le quatrième et dernier donne :)
The best of the four books, in my opinion. Matty completely captivated me from the start and I hungrily followed his story to the end of the book. Such a well-written story with utterly real characters - a joy to read!
I am not ok with the ending TT_TT my favorite character from whole series is gone... why WHY. I hate the „born to be sacrificed to save“ plots. Ugh I'm angry.
Enjoyed this one more than Gathering Blue, but compared to the Giver it's lacking in explanations about how the world works. Hoping more will be revealed and wrapped up in the final book.
Summary: Matty has become the messenger for his village. Although the village was once known for selflessness and welcoming all who needed help, something sinister has been going on and changing the atmosphere. As this sinister energy is growing, Matty is discovering a unique and unexplainable gift that he has.
This was a real gut blow. Such a journey Matty had through the two books. And there was at least some hope right until the moment Leader said that Matty needs to use his power and I understood that he needs to use it on the Forest itself. That was not something he could survive. And even though he healed everything and everyone, his sacrifice feels like such an awful loss. It doesn't seem fair that a bright soul like Matty should die in order to save people from their own vices.
I only hope that they don't waste this sacrifice and don't go back to Trade Mart (and whatever it represents) ever again.
I'm still enjoying this series but wish there was a little more continuity between the books. You get to liking a character and you may or may not see them again...
