this is the perfect combination of a cozy mystery and a smutty romance. this had some of my favorite smut that i've ever read and i enjoy both genres so much, that seeing them combined and seeing the cozy mystery genre become more open, is amazing. this book is a little bit instalusty and instalovely which i think was done in a realistic way but it's still not my favorite lol i love a bit more ~aNgSt~
4.5 stars
This was my first Tessa Bailey book, and I doubt it will be my last. The story and writing were captivating and kept me inthralled. It was hilarious and sweet, with a mystery to boot.
I loved the grumpy/sunshine element to this story. Myles's bounty Hunter to Taylor's teacher was just pure perfection. I loved how Taylor saw beneath the hard exterior that Myles put out to the world. She saw his hurt and who he was inside. Just the way, he didn't see her as this weakling. They saw each other the way nobody had seen them before.
Can an insta-love also be a slow burn? Because that's the feel I got when reading this book. Even though everything happens over the course of five days, it feels like it builds, which is the mark of fantastic writing. When you don't even realise how short of a time has passed.
The tension, oh my word, the tension with this couple is off the charts. And once they finally give in to temptation—it's like an inferno.
I loved the murder mystery aspect of this story. Maybe because I'm such a Criminal Minds fan, but I could totally see myself in Taylor and wanting to help get to the bottom of the whodunit mystery. I liked how the investigation was blended into their relationship and the progression.
There are some notable side characters. The police officer, Wright was hilarious. I just loved him. And then, there was Jude. So many hints about a potential relationship for him. I really hope Tessa plans to write his book. I'll be one of the first in-line to sign up to read it.
Definitely a must-read.
Why, if the story was so good, and I enjoyed it so much is it only 4.5 stars, you ask? Well, there were a couple of moments were I was jolted from the story due to inconsistency. It's possible that most people wouldn't even have noticed, but the way my brain works made it distracting. But nothing that would knock a full star or prevent me from picking up another book by the author.
I'm confused. I read “It happened one summer” and “Hook, line and sinker” from the same author and I loved those books, such interesting characters and the plot was great. This just really wasn't my cup of tea. It was way too fast paced (the main plot happens in just 5 days) and just overall too much at once. The whole murder mystery plot was just there in the background, I wish it would have been a more important part of the story. Honestyl had to skip a couple of paragraphs to finish the book quicker, kind of sad about that. Overall, if you like fast-paced and a lot of smut/dirty talk, I'd say go for it. Not for me though.
I enjoyed this so much! This book was so funny. I found myself laughing at the dialogue and banter often. The murder mystery aspect of it definitely had me turning pages and trying to predict who committed the crime. I devoured this in one sitting because I simply couldn't stop. This story follows Taylor, a teacher on vacation, who like to play it safe (well for the most part). Things go awry when she finds a body in her vacation rental. Enter Myles, ex-detective now bounty hunter, who is a grump with a mushy center. There is a ton of sexual tension between them, which we love, and the payoff was so worth the wait!
This was fun. I love the cover, even if this is not how the characters are described.
This was very cute and definitely isn't one to take too seriously.
Taylor and Jude are just so likeable and Myles is a big loveable bear of a man so have a great grumpy/sunshine relationship.
It's very light on the murder mystery so again not to be taken too seriously, but it's very fun and something a bit different for Tessa Bailey.
Wow so good!
I laughed out loud so much!
The plot was good, the s*x scenes were amazing.
One of my favorite from Tessa Bailey! ♥️
[a:Tessa Bailey 6953499 Tessa Bailey https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1634304355p2/6953499.jpg]'s books are an auto-buy for me and, so far, I was never disappointed. She tends to write alpha heroes, which may not work for everyone (and typically, from other authors, does not work for me either). However, I think the combination of the alpha hero and the strong/ confident female characters works really well. Moreover, despite being alphas, they do not have an abusive role in the relationship and always work through their issues without compromising the female personality. In this book we meet Taylor, a 2nd grade teacher convinced that she cannot be brave, and Miles, a detective turned bounty hunter. Their chemistry is off the charts and their bunter was quite entertaining. This book mixes mystery and romance which was fun. I hope Tessa will decide to write Jude story in the future. This was a perfect summer reading!
I knew I'd probably love it because Tessa Bailey rarely disappoints, but I didn't realize just how much I'd love her usual romance and banter paid with the suspense of a murder mystery. Super fun. Highly recommend.

I love Tessa Bailey. I really do. But this book just isn't it. I can't stay focused on it at all, I don't want to reach for it either. I find myself not caring what happens, unfortunately. Both MC's just seem immature to me. He was sort of possessive and I kind of felt like she was annoying. It also hurts my little Cape Cod since it's based here. Oh well. I will read her future novels but not with this one.
Loosely murder mystery mostly smutty romance. I think it's my favorite Tessa Bailey so far.
