Well... she writes well. It was an interesting travel log from 1890. She seems to have been a laidback, nice lady. But I have to say I'm somewhat shocked. By the racism and... judgment? This reminds me a lot of [b:What Katy Did Next 730503 What Katy Did Next Susan Coolidge https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1348327387l/730503.SX50.jpg 1779240] which had the same feeling. When I read that when I was a kid, I didn't even notice the super-nationalism and racism and stereotypes. It also reminds me of [b:Mark Twain: Complete Travel Writings 15059237 Mark Twain Complete Travel Writings Mark Twain https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1377634959l/15059237.SX50.jpg 20713928]. I suppose there's something about the Victorian American tourists and travelers.I was also somewhat bothered by how... “easy” the journey was. I mean, she managed to do the trip in 72 days only because she got a private train - A WHOLE TRAIN DEDICATED GETTING HER FROM SAN FRANCISCO TO NEW YORK AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE! I'm actually rather surprised they didn't arrange her a boat from Shanghai to San Francisco as well :-D She'd done the journey in 62 days. Anyway, here's an interesting site with photos from the places she visited, to get a better idea of what she's talking about.Nellie Bly: Around the World
