I was skeptical at the beginning as it seemed a little over the top with the Southern cliches. The mystery was fairly well done. The twist at the end was impossible to see coming. So I didn't love it. Lyla's family grew on me more than I expected. So the ending was better than beginning.
I loved how twisty and compelling the actual mystery was! It'd definitely pull in fans of true crime.
That said–there was just a little bit too much tension for me to really think of this as “cozy.” And I have to be honest, the southern culture felt very foreign to me as a native west coaster, haha.
Overall, though, this was a worthy book club pick and I raced through it!
