This book was written by British writer Arnold Bennett. He lived in France from 1903-1911, and was the first established author to be invited to tour the front for propaganda purposes, spending three weeks in France and Belgium in June 1915 and publishing this account later in the year. He was appointed Director of Propaganda in the Ministry of Information in 1918. Enoch Arnold Bennett (1867—1931) was a British novelist, playwright, critic, and essayist whose major works form an important link between the English novel and the mainstream of European realism.
