Three short stories, the chronology of Porter's life at the end of the collection was fascinating and lends credence that a few of the aspects of the stories were lived experiences (Porter contracted influenza during the 1918-1919 epidemic for example) which makes the last/title story even more touching.

If I'm being honest - these probably shouldn't count as Historical Fiction per se (general guidelines of HisFic is 50yrs in past) but I like them so much more when the use of language is all... Old timey. Anyway. I should look up a biography of Porter, the woman had a full life.
