A quick, interesting read in Niven's Ringworld series. In this book Niven pushes my WSOD right to the limit at times as he piles up improbable occurrences and far-out ideas. But it was all good fun, and I must say I had rather forgotten how much I like Niven's writing style.
In this book, guess what? Right you are – the Ringworld is in trouble. In fact there is a war being fought over it by various groups using very dangerous weapons. A renewed Louis Wu and a cast of odd-ball characters take on the task of saving the grand old structure. The twists are many and the action is swift and pretty much nonstop. As the title implies, progeny are involved.
Niven gives enough background that you could probably read this book as a stand-alone, but I reckon it would be much more enjoyable if you read the previous books in the series first.
