Roman

I was really split on how I felt about this book.

On the one hand, I really did like having the vampire's POV. Usually we only get the human and their angst over the discovery of vampire existence or turning, which is overdone at this point. Here we got to see Roman's angst and insecurity over the possibility of his mate not wanting that eternal commitment, which was nice, because let's face it, eternal blood sucking is a big ask.

I also liked that the plot was about more than just turning, and feel like the author breadcrumbed enough about the other vampires to hook me into wanting to read their romances as well. I'm excited for Gabriel to give Soren a hard time, and dare I say it? I want Lucian to get his happy ending. He's that tortured morally grey villain I tend to enjoy.

On the other hand, and this is a usual thing for me, so it may not be book - specific, I really dislike the fated mates trope, even though I like paranormal romance, which really leans heavily into this. The way this book was written reminds me of why. Fated mates usually veer too close into instalove. I enjoyed this book, but I wasn't a fan of how quickly things fell into place for them two emotionally. In addition to the fact that Danny really is a perfect vampire victim, so EAGER to be taken

I have no major complaints. It's everything I could've wanted in a vampire fated mates story. Fun banter between the couple, interesting side characters, a villain who is a real threat to the couple. I enjoyed this and will be continuing with the series. I have to know what happens with Soren and Luc's stories!
